Humphrey has a cow doppleganger that we see often at the lifestyle block near our home. Dalis can also do a pretty decent costume companion stand in as a spotted pony with the right accessories. Family 101 Dalmatians Costume – These are super cute individually, but look absolutely incredible as a full family set.
You can include other dog as themselves or in Dalmatian disguises. It’s also easy to turn the humans into Dalmatians with costumes and/or face paints. Check out our post on DIY Dalmatian costumes for ideas.

There are also lots of slightly different looks and styles to choose from between the original novels and many follow-on movies. Here are the details on our last minute DIY “The Hundred and One” Dalmatians costumes and decorations. Please excuse some of the pictures here or lack thereof. Dressing the furfamily up was a very last minute Halloween decision. So last minute that all of the costumes and decorations were made on Halloween day.
We all had a great time, dogs and kids included. For my shoes, I used a pair of white chunky sneakers that have a slight black and white spotted print on the back. Of all the DIY Halloween costumes I have made, I think dalmatians may be the easiest of them all (and possibly the cutest!). These easy DIY 101 Dalmatians costumes are perfect for siblings, friends OR for a mom and her wild little pups. Last year Miles was a dalmatian and Tommy was a firefighter. It was SO easy to make Miles’ costume and he was so comfy on Halloween I decided to make more dalmatians this year.

I sewed cardboard in the collar to make it more dramatic, and closed it with a rhinestone pin I had. For the hair I used a white pair of pantyhose, and cut the legs off, I tacked a white feather boa on one side and black on the other. Pretty sure you can guess where the idea came from.
Dalmatian Puppy Baby Costume – This DIY Dalmatian costume decorates ready-made white baby wear to make a Dalmatian puppy costume, complete with a floppy eared hat. Of course, I took care to make sure they understood that I was just pretending since I wouldn’t actually want to scare any kiddos into thinking I was a dognapper. Although, I do like patting all the neighbour pups. Humphrey and Oli also enjoyed collecting pats from our visitors. We added a few extra Halloween decorations to really make the most of our DIY Hundred and One Dalmatians costumes and entertain the neighbourhood kids. Halloween isn’t really a thing here in New Zealand, although it’s growing.

For shoes, I opted for a pair of white booties with black details on the sides, but you can use white sneakers as well. Start with an olive green dress, since Anita’s first look is the easiest one to translate to modern day. Rock it with a pair of black heeled mules. Finally, the accessories are optional but you can also wear a green hat and glasses. Anita is mostly seen in A-line midi skirts or dresses, and Oxford shirts in greens, browns, and blues.
Next, I took scrap material I had left and glued it around the sunglasses and the handle of the tote bag. The extra white fur I just pinned to the front of her shirt. I feel like my overall Cruella De Vil costume was cute without being overboard! I was comfortable and didn’t feel like I was “showy” either. For this look, I mixed a polka dot midi skirt with a white crop top.
The Obedient Dalmatian Costume
Like her husband, coats and hats are Anita’s staples throughout the film. A quick disclaimer before I get into the characters I chose for this. I did not include Cruella De Vil on this post for two reasons. Have fun looking through this section and creating your own good or evil 101 Dalmatians costume.
I made this in a few hours using a long sleeve shirt, tights, felt, glue and tulle tied to a ribbon for the tutu. Only took a few hours and got so many compliments on it. This is a super costume for a mom-to-be with an older brother or sister willing to dress up in a 101 Dalmation costume.
My daughter loved the movie so much we decided to create a Cruella de Vil costume. I am not the best when it comes to sewing, but I love Halloween and I hate those store bought costumes. Finally, she put RED lipstick and black and white eye shadow on. We came up with the idea for this Cruella de Vil costume after watching the 101 Dalmatian movies. I bought at a local costume store a wig, two yards of the Dalmatian material, two long pieces of the red fur and two of the white fur and red tights.
There are tons of dalmatians costumes out there but I really did a large search for one that had the cute collar as well as the attached ears and tail. This was one piece of our Cruella family costume idea that I did just buy and didn’t bother to make or do any sort of diy project for. I’ve done enough family costumes over the years to know that sometimes making it yourself can cost more AND take up way more time than it’s worth. With two Dalmatians, how could I not go with a “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” theme for our very first furfamily Halloween?
See the post for details on the costumes for Cruella, Jasper (he and Horace are Cruella’s henchmen), and the three adorable Dalis. Classic Cruella de Vil on the prowl for puppies (like me in our own family’s Dalmatian’s themed Halloween dress-up). Her wild hair and over the top attire are perfect for playing dress-up and there are all sorts of option for assembling a Cruella-like homemade Halloween costume. This costume pairing is a fun and easy fit for families with Dalmatians.
Found something you love but want to make it even more uniquely you? Many sellers on Etsy offer personalized, made-to-order items. For the coat of the costume I traced a pattern from a cape we had.
